ignoring the boringness since 1981

I just had three paragraphs typed when I realized they sounded like they belong on xanga. So under the delete key they went.

Movie recommendation: Leon the Professional. I don’t actually finish very many movies, but this one is violent, mesmerizing, and beautiful. A 12-year-old Natalie Portman plays Mathilda, a girl whose family has been killed in a drug deal gone bad. She survives and convinces Leon, played by Jean Reno, to train her in his trade: hitman. She wants to become a cleaner and get her revenge. Natalie is enchanting in this role as one of those children who have seen too much and so are much older than their years. Jean is endearing as a bachelor who doesn’t know what to do with this manipulative woman-child who is suddenly in his care. Together they’re riveting.

  1. That’s a great movie. I look out for Jean Reno everywhere since I saw it. I also liked him in Ronin, if you ever get to see it.

  2. I’ll have to look for it. Thanks for the suggestion!
