a couple of reviews

Casting Crowns’ new CD, Lifesong: Lame. As with their last one, I wasn’t impressed. It’s frustrating, because many of their songs have good lyrics and a solid message. Unfortunately, the presentation is sadly lacking in creativity. Their songs all sound alike, with an unhealthy dependance on ending a song by repeating a key phrase and letting it sort of trail off into silence. Listen to U2 or Derek Webb instead.
Mission Impossible: 3: I was actually pleasantly suprised with this one, but that could be because I wasn’t expecting much. I thought 2 was exceedingly lame (the presence of Dougray Scott and Thandie Newton being the only redeeming features) with shockingly predictable plot twists. Well, 3 was actually better, but take heed of the fact that everything I write will be in comparison to the earlier installations in this franchise.
In 3, some attention was made to trying to give the characters some depth. The plot twists weren’t as predictable (I loved the part where you actually got to watch them make a mask!), and new characters were pulled in as members of Ethan Hunt’s team. (Luther is totally my favorite.)
The movie did seem kind of long; I think a solid 15 minutes could have been cut without hurting anything. All in all, it was pretty fun, and I was suprisingly engrossed in the story in front of me.

  1. And for MI:III and it’s good story and action, we have J.J. Abrams to thank. You know – the creator of LOST and Alias. 🙂 He needs to make more movies. Have you seen the new trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s Lady In the Water? It looks GREAT.
