what it feels like to have kids?

I got all excited today when I got to go to Wal-Mart by myself. An hour! In the car! By myself! Maybe I can even browse slowly, luxuriously through the sewing section or something. My spirits sank when my phone rang. “Can you come get me? You don’t have to, but if you could it would be great…” Of course I can. There’s no reason not to; losing an hour in the car by oneself isn’t really that big a deal.
It’s not all bad, though. I was thrilled today when Josh did well on his reading, when he came and flopped on the blanket beside me while I was stretched out in the sun. I was estatic when L passed on both of her piano pieces, playing them perfectly after only having them for a week.
But I don’t really mind staying home this weekend as they all head off to the farm. Truly I don’t.
